Our board-certified cardiologists are dedicated to providing the highest level of compassionate care to our cardiology patients, their families and family veterinarians.
Dr. Karen Sanderson is a graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences at Colorado State University. Dr. Sanderson’s residency in cardiology was at the University of California, Davis, after which she achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Internal Medicine, sub-specialty, Cardiology. Her special interests are management of congestive heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and arrhythmia management. Dr. Sanderson is owner of RMVC and a partner in Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty + Emergency Center in Boulder.
Dr. Allison Heaney is a 1999 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. Before completing her residency, she worked in private practice in general veterinary medicine for four years. She then went on to complete a residency in cardiology at the college of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. Following her residency, she achieved Diplomate status in the American College of Internal Medicine, subspecialty, Cardiology. Her special interests include canine mitral valve disease, heart failure management, and interventional therapy for cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Carrie Van De Wiele received her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University. She completed her residency in veterinary cardiology at Purdue University after which Dr. Van De Wiele achieved Diplomate ACVIM, Cardiology. Dr. Van De Wiele’s special interests include electrophysiology and congestive heart failure therapy.

RMVC sees patients at its partner facility, Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty + Emergency Center, 3640 Walnut St. in Boulder, six days a week, Mondays through Saturdays. This new state-of-the-art facility provides emergency and critical care, surgery and internal medicine, and cardiology services. Delivered by a team of compassionate, expert professionals, AVSEC staff is committed to caring for not only for the health and well-being of the pets they serve, but that of all their clients and referring veterinarians. By appointment, RMVC also sees patients as a mobile, on-site service and at satellite locations along the Front Range and throughout Colorado.
